Meet the Heroes Behind Smart Parts: Mason and Morgan
When I set out to write Smart Parts: The Adventures of Mason and Morgan McPeterson, I didn’t have to look far for inspiration. The real-life heroes of this story? My own twins—Mason and Morgan (AKA - Lily and Gabe).
As a dad, I’ve always been fascinated by how kids learn. But watching my twins grow up taught me something deeper: learning works best when it’s wrapped in wonder, creativity, and fun. That’s the heart of Smart Parts a children’s book that blends poems, science, and superhero storytelling into an unforgettable adventure.
The Power of Twins Mason and Morgan aren’t just siblings they’re a team. In the book, they become Captain Atomic and Imaginer, each with unique strengths:
Captain Atomic is powered by logic, curiosity, and scientific thinking.
Imaginer leads with creativity, vision, and heart.
Together, they show kids that both parts of the brain—logic and imagination—are essential. Whether it’s exploring how the brain works or understanding how eyes see light, they learn (and teach) together.
Created for Kids, Tested by Kids every page of Smart Parts was read, reviewed, and refined with input from my own kids. Their reactions guided the rhythm, illustrations, and humor. If they didn’t laugh, we rewrote it. If it didn’t spark something, we tried again.
What’s Next?
This is just the beginning. Mason and Morgan’s journey continues through activity books, read-alongs, and (soon!) a book on technology and how the twins use it in everyday life.
Because science is more than facts it’s a lifelong adventure. If you haven’t met Captain Atomic and Imaginer yet, now’s the perfect time.
